Houston Says NO:
We Call on city Council to Reject Mayor Whitmire’s Betrayal of Houston Voters

Year after year, the neighborhoods we work in flood even in light rain.
Year after year, storms get stronger and more expensive to recover from.
Year after year, the City of Houston has kicked the can down the road on drainage investment – putting our homes, health, and peace of mind at risk.
The Whitmire administration has had ample time to develop a thoughtful plan to comply with the court’s order, honor the will of Houston voters and keep us safe from storms. Instead, Mayor Whitmire relied on a closed-room deal with two men in a city of millions, to subvert the will of voters and kick the can down the road on life-saving infrastructure investments.
This is a failure of leadership that disregards the will of voters.
Mayor Whitmire’s closed-door negotiations cannot supplant the will of thousands of Houston residents. We won’t be strong-armed into accepting disinvestment and crumbling infrastructure as the norm in our city.
This year, we say NO.
The City of Houston must follow the law and fully fund drainage.

About West Street Recovery and the Northeast Action Collective
Formed after Hurricane Harvey in 2017,
we have spent 8 years rebuilding homes, preparing for future disasters and organizing for power in Northeast Houston. We have responded to Harvey, Imelda, Uri, Derecho, and Beryl.
We’re filling the gap left by governments that don’t invest in communities – homes, infrastructure, or disaster recovery.
